But du cours
This module aims to raise students' awareness of the Research & Development (R&D) approach and academic research. It seeks to explore current technological and scientific challenges related to the valorization of tropical agroresources in an island environment. Students will be led to decipher the interaction between processing methods, preservation of nutritional qualities, and specific geographical constraints.
Acquis d'apprentissage visés
Upon completion of this module, the student will be able to:
- Synthesize a current research problem based on an expert intervention or a scientific article reading.
- Identify technological bottlenecks related to the processing of tropical products (fruits, starchy foods, spices, seafood).
- Argue the challenges of food self-sufficiency and the valorization of co-products in an island environment.
- Develop a critical mindset regarding technical innovations and scientific publications.
Prérequis
Knowledge in sciences and technologies, food processes.
Fluency in technical English (for reading article abstracts).
General knowledge of local agri-food sectors (fruits, vegetables, sugarcane, fishing).
Programme
The program is structured around cycles of conferences and supervised analysis sessions.
- Scientific monitoring and reading methodology (how to read, analyze, and critique a scientific article; scientific databases; introduction to specific issues: tropical biodiversity and food resilience in islands, etc.).
- Thematic conferences (e.g., valorization of tropical agroresources; Nutrition and Health in tropical island environments).
- Debates and exchanges: analysis of a research problem encountered during previous sessions; debate on the role of the food engineer in technology transfer between laboratory and industry, etc.
Bibliographie
Scientific productions/Research projects conducted by local research actors (UMR QualiSud, CIRAD, UR). Articles from international journals: Journal of Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, or specialized journals on tropical products. Institutional reports: Reports from CIRAD, IRD, and ANSES on overseas contexts.
